Did you mean 'courteous' instead of 'courtesy'?

I would say turn them off for the month. And talk to people face to face.

Then you would have to worry about courtesy or courteous

Honestly, the things that this world is coming to, an entire month devoted to "cell phone courtesy?" I guess it's necessary but wow...what about the cell companies sending out some info regarding this topic. Oh, that would cost them fortunes. Anyway, fortunately, I am one of not very many who pride myself in my cell phone use etiquette. I rarely use it when I know I'm going to end up at the cash register, am in a social gathering, etc. If the babysitter needs me, fine, I expect that call. If the kids are somewhere and I'm expecting them, I will take that call, usually they text me. I hope everyone will read this and take some notes. This is very important. And I hope they will share these things with their children who have cell phones.

What I hate is when someone's phone rings, they let it ring and ring and ring, or play some obnoxious song and practically let the song finish before answering. Or they let the phone ring, pick it up and then squint to see who's calling them. I want to scream ANSWER THE FRIGGIN PHONE! I have to refrain myself from grabbing it from them and slamming it against their heads. I have mine on vibrate and in my pocket so it doesn't bother anyone. I seldom get calls on it, I use it for emergencies.

I agree BasehorLady, there are some ringtones that are completely inappropriate.

Thank you for bringing the misspelling to my attention. It was very courteous of you.

As for obnoxious ring tones, we can all empathize.

There is a toy that I will buy soon that will disable any cell phone within about 75 feet of you.......

I see great use for it in the classroom and at the movie theatre......

Kids in class sit and text between their knees all day long.....

There are so many I am still researching for the best one...... I would love to go to the movie without hearing a cell phone go off and listen to a person talking on the phone instead of the movie.......

Google Personal cell phone jammers and you will get a lot of hits...... Here is one site......

I have a cell phone, but it is turned off 99.9% of the time until I want to use it. It is turned off 100% of the time at work. However, the employees here at work talk or text all day long on theirs! It's not surprising though since the office manager takes at least 6 calls a day from her husband, 1 from her mother and 3 from her daughter. It's annoying as I've seen her put a business call on hold to answer her frigging cell phone!

I would love to have one of those "jammers" and set it off next to some of the idiotic drivers on I-35 who already don't have adequate driving skills to be out on the road, but it is complicated by their need to hold their cell phone in one hand, while stuffing their faces with a breakfast burrito in the other.

Talk about multi-multi tasking...good grief!

PS - I'm not a hypocrite...I don't own a cell phone! If people want to talk to me, they can do it in person, or call me when I get home...I'm not that important of a humanoid to warrant immedicate access.

:) You're welcome, Web Team. I get so mad when I see someone driving down the road while yakking away on their phone. I see them pulling into my neighborhood on their way home. They are, literally, 1 or 2 minutes from their house. Why won't they wait until they get to their home phone? Same thing on the way out. Why didn't they make the call before they left the house? This is more about safety than etiquette but, at the same time, it's PRETTY DARN RUDE to crash into other people because you think you're so important that you can't possibly be out of touch for the length of time it takes to drive to the store, work, etc....SHUT UP, HANG UP AND DRIVE!!!!!!

ok what irks me is the ppl who will sit in a drs office other establishment such as that and talk on the cell like they are sitting in the privacy of their home... HELLO i dont care what your havin for dinner and i sure dont wanna know what your hubbie did last night to upset you.. we were just in wydot bbq and they now have a sign that says do not use cell phone while ordering or when in line to order. if i get a call while im in a store , eatery, or any place there are others around private conversation or not i remove myself or dont take the call and my phone does have a song ring but i normally have it on vibrate when im out and about....

If I missed an emergency call from one of my kids because someone jammed the signal, I would be extremely irate. Jammers = bad idea.

Im sick of seeing people, Mostly young kids talking on their phones while they drive, I have seen 2 studies that have shown that people talking on a phone while driving, make just as many errors as a person with a 1.0 blood Alcohol content. Not to mention the 19 year old girl that backed into my sons car because she was talking on her phone and not looking where she was driving,
