After reading this blog, I can't believe there's anything else to say.  This says it all, and very well, I might add.

I believe a point was made in his blog, although I don't think it is the one he was trying to make.

"We are Americans. We show the World how its done. We don't learn from the washed up tired nations of the Old World... We are a beacon to the world. Other countries should take their cue from us and learn how to fix their own ailing economies."

Sorry, but this is complete arrogance. Anytime one person or one country feels it can find no help from others because it has all the answers itself, it is heading for a downfall. The other nations know how to deal with these problems because they have had them before. It is time to listen, not thumb noses. Like it or not, the economy is global. No amount of drilling will help, regardless of how bad conservatives want it to.

OEL -
The point is this country's potential for greatness and how far we have strayed from it.

If we are headed for a downfall it is because there are too many people who wish to be cared for and too many people who wish to be caregivers.

We need to get back to the basics one of which is self reliance!

OEL,
"The other nations know how to deal with these problems because they have had them before". Don't you think that they were aided by the United States? As long as I can remember we've been bailing other nations out of trouble one way or the other. Now, some are biting the hand that fed them. We have borrowed money from China and yet, their economy flourishes, do in part by U.S. industry moving their manufacturing there, while our economy is the worse shape than it ever has been.
jstol3 makes a good point. We once were a nation of self reliance and have given into one of apathy and compliance, if that isn't "downfall", what is it?
