Need any further proof that the blogosphere is a powerful tool and here to stay? The Wall Street Journal reports that Google is setting up a two story 8,000 square foot "headquarters" to serve hundreds of bloggers expected at the Democratic National Convention in Denver starting next week. It will do the same for the Republican National Convention in St. Paul.

Also planning a major presence to help bloggers: YouTube...which didn't even really exist four years ago.

At the RNC, about 200 bloggers have been credentialed to work from the press filing center according to the Journal.

Blogs have become a major force in politics. Chatter in the blogosphere is monitored by the pols, and the pundits, and yes, even the so-called mainstream media. The conventions will be fertile ground.

So while the TV networks have foresaken the primetime gavel to gavel coverage of yesteryear, new forms of media and new watchdogs are providing other ways to follow the party conventions (not to mention the cable outlets).

Just another example of the changing information age in which we live.....

I find it interesting that people base their political decisions on others opinions. Many blogs are not accurate; go over to the political section here and see for yourself. If all decisions are made from these "sources" without further research into the matter, it will not be good for the future.

Sure, people can be sued for slander, but how many actually are? Out of millions of blogs, the courtrooms would be full.

0_e_l I like to listen to other people's opinions for different perspectives. All of us don't process facts in the same way so hearing other interpretations helps one form one's own opinion. I think most voters do read blogs and do research to verify things they read. Where would we be without opinions?

The problem is not listening to others opinions to examine both sides. The problem comes from those who only read the opinion of one side, refuse to fact check and pass it on as though it were fact.

I should re-write my first sentence.

"The problem does not come from listening to others opinions to examine both sides."
