The union now wants a federal investigation into WalMart for blocking them from taking it over. Yeap, that's what we need, unions in WalMart so the prices go way up, we can no longer buy cheap, and they go belly up or cut way back.

When did we get to the point that if you don't get what you want you sic the feds on the other company? Look at the steel mills, unions sure helped them, look at the factories that have left the U.S., the unions sure helped them. I have watched over the years unions help the working class then they became a politican and got greedy and look what has happened.

It is one thing to protect people from being over worked, abused and used but it is another to make demands for and expect to get the highest pay, the best health care, the most vaction time. When you take a job for a certain amount you know when you start that is what it pays and what you get is laid out before you start. So why take the job if it is not what you want? Move on.

I forgot, WalMart is getting bigger and bigger and the union wants a peace of the pie. They did not start it, they have not invested in it, they did not do a thing to help it grow but they want a cut of the pie.

If you work at WalMart you can buy stock and expand your income, many have. You just have to watch and buy. Invest in the company. But unions do not invest, they take the peoples money that joins then go about taking the companies money. They do not hear when a company says we can not afford that if they want it. Just go on strike.

Unions helped at one time but now they have gone over board with their demands on many companies. We have higher prices on many products because of higher output for all the demands made for benifits and for wages. A company that wants to expand can not if they make very little profits. WalMart has grown and expanded and we now have Sam's Club. Say good bye to it all if the union gets in. Another one bites the dust.

I have rarely disagreed with you my fellow blogger, however, I wonder where you have gotten the bad taste in your mouth over the union workers. I realize sometimes union companies get a bad rap for the negative type things people see that go on. However, after having been married to a union worker, I also have seen the other side of how a Union works and the good that come from it. Not just the employee side of it. One very big thing that comes from being affiliated with the union that I have learned is (at least the Union we are affiliated with) that the Union is for America. Now, I am unfamiliar with this Wal Mart situation, and will familiarize myself with it. Why? Because so many of the items Wal Mart sells come from out of our country. So, I would find it hard to understand how a union could come into a company that does not promote American products solely. When we have went to purchase mostly large ticket items (b/c it is so difficult to buy American made all the time) we do our homework, and do our very best to buy American only. Trust me, if I had my way, I would be driving something that was foreign. It's too bad that you've had a bad experience with a union situation. I know there are many people that are against the unions. My brother in law and my husband are both electricians. My husband is the union electrician, my brother in law is not. Talk about some interesting talk at family get togethers!

I don't know about Wal Mart specifically, but it seems that union is getting blamed for the outsourcing, companies moving out of the country etc. There are many positives and just as many negetives regarding the union. However, lets not forget, Union contracts are negotiated and agreed upon by BOTH sides.
There has to be more to the story than the Union just wanting a 'piece of the pie'.

I worked in the warehousing union for many years and they did nothing for the working man but take money for dues, in 1977 I was on a negotiating comm. and we were force to take what ever the company wanted to give us which by the way was nothing, the even cut benefits in Health care, the next year the credit union went bankrupt and paid us 10 cents on the dollar for what ever we had in savings( I got 3,000 dollars for the 30,000 dollars I had) Althouh I agree unions were good for this country at one time I also think they have became corrupt and I would never join one again.

I had two jobs, earned good money, went union and company folded after telling the unions they could not afford to pay what they wanted them to. Union cost me two good jobs and what did I get in return, union dues.

My dad worked union jobs all his life, and does he get a pension from them now? NO----! as seems the pension fund was squandered (stolen by big union bosses. Unions are corrupt and don't have the workers interests in mind. I work a union job now, and less than half of our employees opted to join as its obvious the dues go to the national coffers and nothing comes back.

If WalMart goes union, I'll go somewhere else.

Yeap I can see how unions helped. Due to union wages rents went up, the cost of buying a house went up, cars went up, everything that became unionised cost more because of pay scales and the open market wants to get a cut of those union pays. And what do the unions give back? Strikes, higher cost, and take your money. Look at the airlines, union scale and they are falling apart now because they have no overhead to cover themselfs incase of what happened with gas prices. Their profits go on paychecks, benifits, and taxes. So they fold. As did the steel mills, the factories where I use to work and many more that have gone over seas. So I guess you can say they work, if you are one of the Union Heads.

I am a reformed democrat now republican and mother of 5, have 10 grandchildren and one greatgrand child. I have lived all over the US and love to sit on docks and fish. Waiting for the big one. I love my family and a good joke, reading and painting. My siblings all think I need to be taken care of as do my children and I'm the oldest so don't know why. I watch Fox 4 News because you are about the fairest all around on T.V.
